“Is it true? The trousers don’t fit anymore! How could that happen?”
A few years into my working life after graduating from university I realized that I had to go up one size in trousers. Obviously I had gained some weight, i.e. fat, on my thighs and bottom. I had been physically active doing aerobics twice a week so I considered myself healthy. I wasn’t into any junk food either, eating pretty healthy I thought.
I assumed it was due to me working in an office, sitting in front of a computer, that I had gained weight. Maybe I had to intensify my training? I never really reflected upon my eating habits at first. Then I heard about the GI method, that some foods did affect the blood sugar levels far more than others and that it could promote the body storing fat from carbohydrates. Oops, pasta, rice and white bread were staples in my diet. And those things could make me fat? I became more conscious about food and tried different diets, however a few years later it was time again, I had to go up one more size in trousers.
I was Defeated
It felt like I was defeated, I had really been trying hard to eat healthy, and it didn’t work. I felt so helpless. If that didn’t work, then what did? I had always been slim and now my thighs and bottom were enormous it felt like, and my belly started to look like in beginning of pregnancy, though I wouldn’t say I was overweight. I looked in the mirror and thought: “Is this really me?” Usually I did avoid looking at my body in the mirror however, especially when without clothes.
When buying clothes I had to look; How do these trousers fit? Which pair makes me look least fat? I changed my style to more baggy clothes. Baggy trousers were cool I decided. The summer was the worst. What clothes could I wear that was not so revealing? And wearing skirts and dresses was not an option since my thighs were so fat they started to feel sticky and sweaty when pressed tight together. Long baggy shorts and short trousers were the answer. In bikini I tried to cover my thighs and bottom with a towel. I felt much less attractive than before, what did my boyfriend think about my body going fatter? Having sex I felt ashamed of my body.
I wondered: “Is this how it should be? Inevitable going fatter for every year?” I could see the same thing happening with friends and colleagues in their 30’s and 40’s, and with my partner too, even though he had always been very fit.
The Paleo Diet did the Difference
Then my partner read about the paleo diet. It made sense, eating the things that the body was designed to eat during evolution. That must be a good thing for your health. We decided to try it out for 30 days. It is a big change in diet, how would it be not eating bread for example, and what about breakfast? The main reason was health, to avoid diseases when growing old. At least that was what we said. However we noticed that the body fat started to melt away with paleo food. It was amazing; we could eat really nice, good tasting meals, no starvation diets and it was very simple to know what to eat and what to avoid, and one more thing; we got more nutrients per meal than ever. All this and loose excess fat? We kept on with paleo for three months.
At that point I realized that all the trousers I had recently bought, of the new bigger size, were now too big for me! WOW! It was a victory! I had lost one size, going back to my old trousers, of which I had kept a few luckily, just in case…
The paleo diet was the answer. Finally we had found it. Yippy!
Feeling Proud of my Body, Feeling Sexy and Being a Slim Mother
Since then (this was more than five years ago) I lost more excess fat and I went down two sizes in trousers in total, back to the size I had when at university. Now I had to go buy new trousers since I had not kept those old ones. And it felt so good! I can now wear really slim trousers that bring forth my body nicely. Skirts and dresses and shorts are not a problem anymore. I feel really sexy in the summer with short tight shorts, short skirts and dresses, new bikinis and a nice tan on my legs (since I don’t have to hide my thighs anymore).
I have been through a pregnancy as well, and it is a great joy to have this amazing baby daughter that is healthy and thriving. I was looking forward to see how being pregnant would affect my body and if eating a paleo diet would make the experience different from that of others. I gained in total 22 pounds and after 4-5 months I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight with zero effort. Other new mothers around me have gained like 26-36 pounds and they have a hard time losing those last pounds of excess weight afterwards.
I am now proud of my body, of my bottom and my thighs. I never thought that possible! Looking in the mirror I recognize myself again and I feel good about myself. I feel attractive and sexy, and this feeling I have of myself is also visible as an impression to others. I notice I get more attention for my looks. Feeling sexy puts me up for more sex as well, I feel more in the mood for sex and my partner is back with his sexy body too.
To me it is a true blessing to have found a diet that is so effective in keeping my body lean, and where I can have really nice, good tasting meals, knowing that it is so nutritionally right too.
